Infinity - Tournament Preparation

SCTS 2015 III LOOMS - HOW HAVE I BEEN PREPARING? 


At time of writing, SCTS 2015 III, a 300pt, three-game ITS Tournament for Infinity held at the local gaming club is tomorrow! Some radio silence on my part has been due to preparing for the tournament, painting more terrain pieces and a couple of extra models for the team. In this post, I will be discussing some of the preparations I have been making.

THE SCENARIOS
Beaconland, Transmission Matrix and Annihilation are the three missions set out for the day - not exactly the easiest set of missions! Beaconland and Transmission Matrix are unusual choices, very different to the usual suspects, and missions I had not had good time to practise with. They would reward teams with a lot of Specialists, especially Hackers for the Matrix mission, and required some thinking to have a chance of scoring maximum points,

THE TEAM
The Tournament allowed us to run two teams, which would be important for the missions as they were quite different in their parameters. My first team would be the Old Faithful team I have been running for a few months now - they have made appearances at several tournaments and the list has always worked well. I swapped the Transductor Zond for a Salyut Zond - with Baggage, this model will be useful for the first and third missions.

The second team loses the Intruder with HMG to bring in a Hellcat with Spitfire and Tomcat Engineer - drop troopers who will be able to assist in clearing out the enemy deployment zone and grabbing Objectives late in the game. Beaconland especially will need more Specialists, and the Tomcat will hopefully make his mark. The extra points were used to turn the Paramedic into a Daktari Doctor, better for healing my one Intruder. The Combat Group split was an issue for me, but I think it should be okay as the Link Team will be very efficient with the Orders. 

I tend not to build special teams for special missions, but in this case the Beaconland mission would favour as many troops as possible carrying Beacons, without sacrificing firepower. Six Specialists is probably not enough, but I had done well in a practise game with five, so it would be worth a try!

PAINTING 
I had been painting a lot in recent weeks for the Escalation League, good timing for the Tournament! Important progress had been made with the Jaguars, Intruder with MULTI Sniper Rifle and the Hellcat with Spitfire, but specially for the Tournament I painted up a Salyut Zond - a Baggage Remote that will give an advantage in the Beaconland mission and also assist with the Annihilation mission.

TERRAIN WORK
Beyond painting for the team, my main focus for the days leading up to the tournament was painting more terrain for the two tables I would be supplying - specifically vehicles for the Neon City board. These cars have been sourced from Antenociti's Workshop, and were a real pleasure to paint. Nice and simple, they provided a brightly coloured distraction from my usual subjects, and will fill the streets well.
